This year’s British University Handball Championship proved to be as exciting as expected: The Cambridge men’s entered the competition as defending champion and the Cambridge women’s won their first UniChamps title in the plate finals.
In the first round, the Cambridge men’s went through with a clean sweep winning against all opposing teams. Moving on, the team faced strong opponents – the top three seeds from the North and Midlands – and had to give in to two of them. This left them stuck in the group phase, unable to defend their title.
The women’s team started off with two wins and two losses in the first round, which allowed them to enter the plate finals. They went on to win match after match, fighting their way to the plate final against the team from King’s/Imperial College. The women’s team impressively earned their first title, with a two digit against one digit end result.
